On Saturday last, a short time after John Richards, Esq., of Bower Cottage, Froxfield, near Petersfield, had retired to bed, he was awoke by a strong smell of smoke. He immediately called the servants, who had, with himself, scarcely reached the bottom of the staircase, when the whole roof fell in a mass of burning flame; they narrowly escaped with their lives, and the whole of the furniture was destroyed. It was, no doubt, the work of an incendiary, as it appeared to have been set on fire in three places.
