PETERSFIELD.—LOCAL TALENT.—We are pleased to announce the success of a townsman of ours. Mr. John Holdaway, who was the junior of nine candidates, examined recently for three separate situations in the Customs, on which occasion he obtained 967 marks, since which he has made choice of a vacancy in London, and will enter on his new duties in the early part of the ensuing month. This youth was a pupil teacher in the Petersfield British School, during which time he was presented with a case of mathematical instruments from the Council of Education, with his name engraved on the exterior, for persevering and meritorious conduct. This is one of the many pupils under the tuition of the celebrated master, Mr. John Fairbairn, who has left this excellent establishment with golden honours.
