On Tuesday last, as a labourer, named Buckell, was engaged on the London and Portsmouth direct Railway, near Petersfield, in removing earth in trucks drawn by horses, he accidentally fell, and the wheels passed over one of his feet, which was so dreadfully crushed, that he was, as soon as possible, conveyed to Chichester Infirmary, where immediate amputation was deemed necessary. The operation was at once skilfully performed, and the poor fellow is going on favourably.
