PETERSFIELD.

TOUR THROUGH TURKEY.—A lecture was given in the National School rooms at Petersfield, on Friday, the 7th inst., by Wm. Charles Rickman, Esq., of Empshott. The subject was a Tour in Turkey, through which country this gentleman passed in his travels through Europe. It was expected to be well attended, and it was so much so that the room was crowded to excess. It excited great interest in the town and the surrounding villages. Nothing could be more flattering to a lecturer than to see the deep attention paid to him during the whole time; the quick eye and eager countenance plainly shewed the thrilling effect each word produced, the graceful way in which it was conducted, the amusing anecdotes, and the vivid way in which the peculiar Turkish manners were represented, will not soon be forgotten. We must most sincerely thank Mr. Rickman for his extreme kindness in favoring us with the lecture, and the able manner in which it was performed, and only hope some future day to have the indulgence of again hearing a lecture of Mr. Rickman’s.
