LITERARY AND READING ROOM, AND ADULT CLASSES. —CONCLUDING LECTURE. —A lecture was delivered on Wednesday evening last, in the National School Room, by the Rev. Thomas Bacon, rector of Kingsworthy, and one of the secretaries of the Hants and Wilts Education Society, on ‟the Degrees of Intelligence from Instinct to Reason,” and we have seldom had a richer treat. To attempt to give any idea of the rev. gentleman's eloquence, and the graphic and entertaining manner in which he relates the various anecdotes illustrative of his subject, is a task far beyond our capability. The audience repeatedly testified their delight by the most rapturous applause. We are glad to say there was a larger attendance than on some previous occasions, and of this much we are certain, if those who were absent could have had the faintest idea of the treat they were losing, seats would have been at a premium for once at least. At the close a vote of thanks was proposed and carried by acclamation, after which, this being the last lecture of the season, R. G. P. Minty, Esq., took the opportunity of proposing a vote of thanks to the Rev. J. M. Sumner, for the kindness he had shown in repeatedly interesting himself to procure lectures during the present season. This was seconded by H. Atkinson, Esq., and cordially responded to by the audience.
