PETERSFIELD.

A LURCHING SHEEP-KILLER.—Very considerable destruction has lately taken place in the sheep-folds in this immediate neighbourhood, and amongst the number is Mr. Henry Boy’s of Horn Farm, who, during the last week, has lost seven lambs. The mischief was rightly charged to one of the canine species, and, in consequence, two good detectives were called into requisition, viz., a gamekeeper (who can well trap an otter or a rat) and a policeman incog. and set on the watch on Friday night last. During the watch up to 12 o’clock, a dog, one of the lurcher-breed, was seen to enter the field as if for inspection, and at each time retired. About one o’clock a.m., he again paid a visit, and on this occasion made his grand onslaught, but finding that his intended victims were protected, he hastily beat a retreat. He was followed to his home by the detectives, and proved to belong to a labouring man of the name of Samuel Knight, in the village of Sheet, and we are glad to say was hung the next day.
