GUILDFORD
ARCHBISHOP ABBOT’S SCHOOL.—The Trustees, after duly weighing the testimonials of 86 candidates, reduced them down to four. After a personal interview with each, they elected Mr. Macfarlane, from Petersfield. His certificate is first class, and his testimonials of the very highest order, both as to character and acquirements. Regretting the non-success of Mr. Rouse, who is so well known in the town, we feel that the school will be in very competent hands, and the more so if Mr. Rouse decides om continuing in his present post. Wishing both him and the institution every success, we trust that this will be his course of action, and that his valuable services will not be lost to the school.

PETERSFIELD.—Mr. Macfarland, the master of the National Schools of this town, has been selected out of 86 candidates as head master of Archbishop Abbott’s School at Guildford. His removal after twelve years of faithful teaching, will be a great loss to the Petersfield schools. Under him they have attained a high reputation, and it is to be hoped that the Committee may find a successor who will carry on the good work of education with equal ability and tact. Mr. Macfarland enters upon the duties of his new sphere at Easter.
