PETERSFIELD.
NEW CORN EXCHANGE.—The long contemplated advantages to be secured by the erection of a Corn Exchange, we are glad to say, are in a fair way of being secured for the convenience of business, to the attendants of our old established market. At a meeting, held in the Town Hall, last Tuesday, to take into consideration the desirability of building a Corn Exchange in Petersfield, E. Shenton, Esq., in the chair:— It was moved by the Rev. J. M. Sumner, and seconded by Mr. Elkington, ‟That in order to afford proper accommodation to those gentlemen who attend the market, it is desirable to build a Corn Exchange in Petersfield.” —It was moved by S. W. Seward, Esq., and seconded by A. Grain, Esq., ‟That the following gentlemen be appointed a committee, to select a site for the proposed building, and to collect information, and report to a public meeting, to be held on the 20th of April next, at two o’clock: The Right Hon. Sir W. G. H. Jolliffe, Bart., M.P., Mr. S. W. Seward, J. B. Carter, Esq., M.P., Mr. Shenton, Mr. Henry Boys, Mr. Small, Mr. Adams, Mr. Cross, Mr. C. Collis, Mr. Crafts, Mr. George Seward, Mr. James Stubbs, Mr. W. Chalcraft, Mr. Elkington, the Rev. J. M. Sumner. Five to be a quorum.”—It was moved by Sir W. W. Knighton, Bart., and seconded by the Hon. J. J. Carnegie, ‟That Mr. Soams be appointed Secretary to the Committee.”—It was moved by H. Elkington, Esq., and seconded by W. Adams, Esq., ‟That a vote of thanks be given to the Chairman for his conduct in the chair.”
