PETERSFIELD.

The nomination took place on Monday. The candidates are Mr. Hector, the late member, a Liberal; and Sir Wm. Jolliffe, a Tory. The contest will be a severe one.

Mr. Mitcham proposed Mr. Hector; and Mr. John Mundy, jun., seconded the nomination.

Mr. Cook proposed Sir Wm. Jolliffe; and Mr. Meers seconded the nomination.

Mr. Hector and Sir Wm. Jolliffe having severally addressed the meeting, a show of hands was then taken for the different candidates, when it was declared by the Mayor to be in favour of Mr. Hector amidst loud cheers. Sir William Jolliffe then demanded a poll, which is appointed to take place this day.
