PROVINCIAL.

    PAROCHIAL UNIONS.—the first meeting of the guardians of the several parishes, comprising the Alresford union, appointed under the New Poor Law Act, was held on the 4th instant, before Colonel A'Court, Assistant-Commissioner, when Messrs. W S Beare, J Hunt, and ––– Forder, were respectively appointed Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and Auditor of the union. Messrs. Knapp and Co. were appointed treasurers, Mr Moody, clerk, and Mr Corey and Mr Hayles, surgeons. It was agreed that the weekly meetings shall be held on Thursday, at 12 o'clock at noon, and a resolution passed to the effect that a union workhouse shall be built in New Alresford, in such manner as the guardians, subject to the approval of the Poor Law Commissioners; and that application should be forthwith made for plans and elevations to be approved of, as circumstances will admit. It is intended that the following parishes shall form the Petersfield union :—Petersfield, Buriton, Colemore, Eastmeon, Froxfield, Greatham, Liss, Priorsdean, Privett, steep, Sheet, Hawkley, and Empshott. Three guardians to be elected for the parish of Petersfield, two for Eastmeon, and one for the rest of the parishes. The first day for election of guardians will be the 28th instant. The money required to erect the workhouses may be borrowed of the Exchequer Bill Loan, under the provisions of the 63d section of the 4th and 5th William IV., cap. 76.
