PETERSFIELD.

PENNY READINGS.—The first penny readings in connection with the Young Men’s Improvement Society, took place in the boys national school room, on Tuesday last. There was a good attendance, although the room was not filled; this was owing to so few of the humbler classes being present. Mr. Atkinson, vice-president of the society, took the chair, and the programme proceeded. Very much praise might be bestow upon those who took part in the proceedings; suffice it to say, the entertainment was a complete success. Thanks, however, are due to Mr. Finley and his coadjutors for their kind assistance. It is arranged that the next reading should take place on Tuesday, the 29th instant.
