PETERSFIELD.

ACCIDENT.—Mr. William Knowles, the Petersfield and Godalming carrier, met with a serious accident a few days since. Coming up the other side of Hindhead with a considerable load, he and his mate, in order to relieve the horses, each laid hold of the shafts of the van, Knowles being on the off side, when just as he had let go two persons in a dog cart drove past at a rapid pace, the wheel of the vehicle caught Knowles by the side and fairly lifting him from the ground, threw him several yards forward, and on his falling passed over one of his legs breaking it in two places; he was conveyed in the van to Liphook, and thence by fly to his home at Petersfield, where the fractures were set by Mr. Cross, and we hear he is going on well. We are sorry to have to add that the party in the dog cart did not pull up, but it is hoped that when they learn the extent of the injury done, they will come forward to assist in the matter of expenses, which poor Knowles can ill afford to bear.
