PETERSFIELD.—A meeting on behalf of the Church Missionary Society, was held in the National School-room on Friday last, the Rev. J. M. Sumner in the chair. The Rev. ⎯ Thomas, late chaplain in India, attended as a deputation and addressed the meeting at some considerable length, more especially on the missionary work in India, showing in a most clear and forcible manner that it is both real and genuine. His remarks possessed additional interest from the fact that he has but just returned from the scene of that fearful mutiny which has devastated our Indian empire, and called forth all our sympathies both as a nation and as individuals. The meeting was also addressed by the Revs. the Chairman, M. A. Smelt, and T. Floud; and we are glad to say the sum collected amounted to £18.
