     COUNTY BENCH.—TUESDAY.—Before the Hon. J.J. Carnegie (chairman), Sir W.G.H. Jolliffe, Bart., M.P., Sir J.C. Jervoise, Bart., M.P., J.B. Carter, Esq., M.P., J. Waddington, Esq., and Major Briggs.

     John Chase, of Kippences, in the parish of Liss, charged with erecting a steam thrashing machine within 20 yards of a highway, leading from Liss to Rake, on Thursday, the 28th ult. was fined 5s., and costs 6s.

     John Whitehart, of Sheet, was brought up on a warrant charged with threatening the life of his wife, Mary Whitehart, on Monday last.—Complainant deposed that she had been married to defendant about ten months, that he had frequently ill-used her during the last four months, and that on the previous day he threatened to murder her.—Defendant said that what he had done was done in passion, and he was very sorry, and would not do the like again.—He was ordered to enter into his own recognisance of £20, and to find two sureties of £5 each to keep the peace for 12 months.
