PETERSFIELD, Saturday, May 30.

A MISADVENTURE.—On Tuesday evening a man giving the name of John Cook, and having a fair appearance for one of his calling, entered the door at the back of the police-station in this town and begged some pence to obtain a night's lodging. Police constable Rodaway, seeing the man enter, followed up in the rear, and who, upon finding the object of his visit, kindly undertook to provide lodging free of expense. Upon searching him sevenpence halfpenny was found in his possession in coppers, with sufficient food for a moderate man for two days, consisting of bread, beef, cheese, and half a head of a fine cabbage, ready cooked. On Wednesday the prisoner was taken before Mr. J. Waddington, who committed him for fourteen days’ imprisonment at Winchester.
