PETTY SESSIONS
— On Tuesday the parish constables were sworn in, and the overseers appointed for the several parishes within the division.
— Albert Ewens was fined 2s. 6d., with costs, 9s. 6d., for allowing a horse to stray on a certain highway called Beckham-lane, in the parish of Buriton
— Thomas Daws was convicted of stealing a basin at Bramshot, and was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour.
— Thomas Sargent was charged with stealing 8l. from Charles Smith, at Horndean, on Friday, April 2nd. He was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour.
— George Pink was fined 5s., with costs, 9s. 6d., for taking a quantity of beans belonging to his employers, Messrs. John and James Nicholson, at Catherington, for the purpose of giving them to the horses under his care.
— Mary Ann Cook (married woman) was convicted of stealing, on the previous evening, 4s. 6d. from a till in the shop of Mr. Edward Young, in the Square, Petersfield. Prisoner was working in the house as charwoman at the time. She pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment with hard labour.
— Poor-rates were allowed for the following parishes, viz., Greatham, 1s. 8d.; Liss, 1s. 6d.; Petersfield, 1s. 8d.; Steep, 1s. 6d.; Sheet, 1s. 6d.; Hawkley, 1s. 8d., and Empshot, 2s. '
