SETTING WIRES.

     James Ellis, aged 13 years, appeared to answer the charge of setting wires for the purpose of taking game, upon land, the property of Sir J. C. Jervoise. D. Barrett, under game-keeper, proved the offence.

     Defendant admitted taking up the wires, but said he did so at the request of James Whittington, (another boy), who told him nobody could hurt him, as it was his mother’s land.

     Fined 5s. and 8s. costs. Paid.

     Sir J. C. Jervoise left the Bench during the hearing of the case.

STEALING APPLES.

     George Porter, Alfred Porter, and William Soul, three boys, were charged with stealing apples from an orchard in Buriton, the property of J. Bonham Carter, Esq., on the 7th of July.

     P.C. Rolfe proved the case, and a former conviction proved against George Porter and William Soul, Porter, was fined 1s. and 3s. 2d. costs, or 7 days imprisonment, and Soul 5s. and 3s. 2d., costs, or 14 days imprisonment.

     Mr. Carter retired upon the case coming on.
