PETERSFIELD PETTY SESSIONS, TUESDAY.—Magistrates present: Mr. J. Waddington and Major Briggs.
Only two cases were brought before the bench. One was an assault case from Privett, in which Martha Sherwood, the wife of Thomas Sherwood, of Westmeon, charged Solomon Andrews with knocking her down and kicking her after she was down, on the evening of the 23rd of July, at the Sun public house, nut her evidence was rebutted by the evidence of three witnesses. The charge was dismissed, and the complainant ordered to pay the costs, 8s. 6d.
Jesse Newman, a young labourer from Buriton, charged Mary Hawkins, a married woman of no particular residence, with stealing from his pocket a purse, containing 22s., in the churchyard of Petersfield, on the night of Saturday, the 31st of August.—The prisoner was committed for trial at the ensuing sessions.
