PETERSFIELD

PETTY SESSIONS, Tuesday last.—Present: Major Briggs and J. Waddington, Esq.—There were only two cases before the Bench: one was an assault case from Privett, in which Martha Sherwood charged Solomon Andrews with knocking her down and kicking her; but her evidence was rebutted by the testimony of several witnesses, and the magistrates dismissed the case, and adjudged the complainant to pay the costs, 18s.—In the other case, Jesse Newman, of Weston, charged Mary Hawkins, a married woman, with stealing from his person on Saturday night last, in Petersfield Churchyard, a purse containing 22s. The whole affair was of a most disreputable character, and more especially so. Regard being had to the locus in quo, we shall not report the details, but simply announce that prisoner was committed for trial at the ensuing Quarter Sessions.
