PETERSFIELD

     PETTY SESSIONS, Tuesday, 13th July.— Present: The Hon. J. J. Carnegie, G. Forbes, Esq., and Sir W. Knighton. 

STEALING A CLASP KNIFE.—Robert Bockman, of Rogate, was brought by Superintendent Fey, charged with stealing one clasp knife, the property of Mr. John Harffe, of Petersfield. From the evidence of Albert Pearson and P.C. 100, G. Beckley, the case was clearly proved. He being in custody 14 days, the bench took it into consideration, and sentenced him to 14 days imprisonment. 

NEIGHBOURS QUARRELLING.— George Pink, surgeon, of Eastmeon, was summoned by Francis Deare, of the same place, for assaulting him on the 28th June last. After a number of witnesses were examined, the decision of the magistrates was reserved, as it appeared there was a cross summons, where Mr. G. Pink was the complainant. After the examination of many witnesses which occupied the bench for some length of time, the cases on both sides were dismissed, and both parties ordered to pay their own costs, and the chairman advised them to go home and live more friendly together. 

DRUNK AND DISORDERLY.George Benham, of Buriton, was summoned by P.C. G. Lilley, for being drunk on Sunday, the 13th of June, at Buriton. Fined 5s.

DAMAGING APPLE TREES.—William Partrick, James Partrick, William Colwell, Thomas Wells, and John Hill, were summoned by P.C. 38. G. Lilley, for wilfully damaging certain apple trees the property of J. B. Carter, Esq., in the parish of Buriton. Ordered to pay 1s. 6d. each for costs.

DESERTION.—David Colyer and Richard Huson were brought up in custody, charged by Superintendent T. Fey, with being deserters from the 4th Royal Lancashire Militia. Remanded until Friday next.

THREATENING.—Before R. Steel, Esq.—On the 7th inst. James Pocock, horse breaker, of Petersfield, was brought up under a warrant charged with threatening "to do for Henry Putnam," and that from the above and other threats used by the prisoner he (prosecutor)  was afraid he would do him some bodily injury. Ordered to keep the peace towards Henry Putnam for three months.

ANOTHER DESERTER. Before R. Steel, Esq.—John Johnson was brought up on the 12th inst., by Superintendent T. Fey, charged with being a deserter from the Lancashire Militia, and committed.
