WHEN YOU SERVE A NOTICE, READ IT OVER!
An application was made by Mr. John Thomas Wooldridge, for an order of ejectment from a tenement at Catherington, of Josiah Appleton, the occupier. It appeared that the complainant, upon serving the defendant with a notice of his intention of making the present application, did not at the time read over the notice and explain its purport. The case was dismissed, and applicant said he must begin again.
— Herbert Price, a painter, residing at Portsmouth, was charged by Ann Chapman, of Cathering, with being the father of her illegitimate child, which the defendant did not deny, and the case being proved, he was ordered to pay 2s. per week, and the costs.
— Henry Strugnel, a Carter in the employ of Mr. Shenton, of Buriton, was charged by William Gumbrel, gamekeeper to J. Bonham Carter, Esq., with stealing four pheasants’ eggs from a nest in Dean Barn Lane. It seemed that the defendant had been employed upon the property from his childhood. Fined 5s. for each egg, and 7s. 6d. costs.—Paid. Mr. Carter retired during the hearing of the case.
