PETERSFIELD PETTY SESSIONS, Tuesday. — Present : The Hon. J. J. Carnegie (in the chair), and Mr. John Waddington.
Pheasants’ Eggs Again!—Jonas Nash, Gamekeeper to Mr. Green, of Ditcham, v. Peter Tee.— Plaintiff deposed : On the 28th of April I was watching a nest, at 8 o'clock in the morning, on Glasses Brow. Peter Tee was coming along in a cart, looking over into the bushes. Peter Tee said, ‟Here's a pheasant's nest.” The carter said, ‟Come away.” Peter said, ‟Let's take ’em.” The carter said, ‟There's so many people about, let ’em bide till we come again.” At 11 o’clock they came back, and Peter Tee stooped down. At 2 o’clock Tee and the carter came again. Peter then said, ‟Let’s take ’em this time.” The carter said, ‟If you do, be quick about it.” Tee then took them. I went to the nest, and saw the eggs were gone. I then went to Peter Tee, when he gave me the eggs; there were four.— Defendant put no questions and made no defence. It appeared that defendant’s father had been in the habit for years of purchasing timber from this property, and this year he had purchased to the extent of £200.— Fined 5s. for each egg, and 7s. 6d. costs. — The Chairman, by way of caution, observed that in any future cases the whole penalty would be inflicted.
