PETERSFIELD.

Agent—Mr. G. DUPLOCK.

PETTY SESSIONS.—Tuesday.—Present: the Hon. J. J. Carnegie, (chairman), W. Nicholson, Esq., Captain Sandeman, and J. Waddington, Esq.

This was a special session for granting ale-house licences. There were no new applications, and all the old licences were renewed excepting one for a house at Priorsdeane kept by William White. In this case the house had been recently burnt down, and as the property forms part of the celebrated Tichborne estate, the applicant did not think it likely that the house would be re-built, but he informed the magistrates that had fitted up the barn roughly, and was living in it, and he thought it might do for selling beer &c. Their worships, however, thought otherwise, and declined to renew the licence.

William Kimber, aged 15, was charged with trespassing on land belonging to Mr. S. W. Seward, at Penns farm, in the parish of Sheet. Mr. Seward did not press for severe punishment, but as the offence had been more than once repeated and defendant was impudent when remonstrated with, he wished to put a stop to the practice. Defendant was fined 6d., costs 9s. 6d.

Charles Pink, of Sheet, was summoned for non-payment of a poor's rate (3s. 4½d.) made in April last. He was ordered to pay with costs 4s., a fortnight being allowed him.

Daniel Lee, of Petersfield, was summoned for non-payment of 1l. 3s. 5d. as poor's rate made in April last, and was ordered to pay the amount with costs 6s. 6d., or a distress warrant to issue.
