PETERSFIELD
PETTY SESSIONS, Tuesday.— Present: Sir J. C. Jervoise, Bart., M.P., Sir W. Knighton, Bart., J. Waddington, Esq., J, Bonham Carter, Esq.
— SETTING A WIRE.—Daniel Miles, a Carter, in the employ of Mr. Charter, of Froxfield, was convicted on the information and evidence of John Blackman, of setting a wire for a hare on the 28th of November.— Fined 12s, 6d., costs 7s. 6d.; allowed till next day to pay.
— TWO BOYS IN TROUBLE—Charles Emm and Henry Fly, two boys from Buriton, were charged with stealing two rabbit gins. It appeared from the evidence of William Haylock, gamekeeper to W. Green, Esq, of Ditchson Park, that he (witness) had set the two gins in question on the 4th of December to catch vermin. The bays were employed a few days ago as ‟stoppers” to a party of sportsmen, and on meeting with the guns they were seen by another witness, John Powell, to take each of them one, which they carried home, and hid them in a woodhouse belonging to Emm’s father, where they were afterwards found. Fined 6s. 6d. each, or ten days’ imprisonment.—The mothers of the boys were present, and paid the money.
— LICENSES.— The following licenses were transferred: the Railway Accommodation, Petersfield, from James Clear to Thomas James; Market Inn, Petersfield, from James Heath to John Lickfold; the Wheatsheaf, Liphook, from William Tomsett to William Woodward; the Cricketers, Bramshott, from William Francis to Thomas Lemmings; the Railway Hotel, Liss, from Charles Smith to Charles William Garner.
