Petersfield.
PETTY SESSIONS—TUESDAY, AUG 16.
(Present, Sir J. C. Jervoise, Bart., M.P. (in the chair), J. Waddington, Esq., and Major Briggs.)
STEALING APPLES.
John Deadman and Thomas Elliott appeared upon summons to answer the complaint of Thomas Amey in the parish of Steep. Complainant deposed to going into his orchard on the evening of the 29th of July, between 9 and 10 o’clock, and seeing the two defendants up one of the apple trees. He did not wish to punish the boys, as an older person set the example, or he believed they would not have done it.
Convicted with a caution, and ordered to pay the expenses. Fined 4s. and costs 4d. each. Paid.
DRUNK AND RIOUTOUS.
Henry Beagley, (son of Mr. Beagley, baker and grocer), of Eastmeon, was brought up, charged by P.C. George Baker, with being drunk and riotous. He deposed to being called upon by Mr. Forder of Eastmeon, at 8 o’clock on the evening of the 15th inst., to put a stop to a disturbance, and found the prisoner on the ground without his jacket and waistcoat. Hia father was holding him down opposite his shop in the village. Upon the prisoner getting up he attempted to follow some of the gentry, when, to prevent his fighting, Baker took him into custody, and upon his refusing to walk, he took him in a cart to the police station at Petersfield.
By the chairman. His father called upon me once before to stop a disturbance.
Fined 5s. and 2s. costs, or 7 days imprisonment. Paid
APPLICATION FOR AN ORDER OF EJECTMENT.
Edmund Harris applied for an order of ejectment against Ann Welch who, it appears, was living in a cottage in the Stroud, in the parish of Eastmeon, taken by defendant at 1s. 3d. per week, with arrangement for a week’s notice to be given; and after several weekly payments being made by defendant, she at length refused pay any further rent, or to give up possession to the landlord. The necessary forms having been proved, the order was granted, and placed in the hands of the police force for execution after the expiration of 20 days.
