NEGLECTING TO SUPPORT A FAMILY
Robert Bramble, labourer, was charged by relieving officer Gilliam with deserting his wife and family, rendering them chargeable to the parish.
Gilliam stated that he knew defendant’s family. Three of his children were inmates of the Union Workhouse. The children went to the Union on the 23rd of September. They were chargeable, at a cost of 9s. per week to the parish. The defendant had sold off his bed and bedding.
Defendant said he was unable to maintain his family. He had been in the Petersfield Workhouse eight days with a bad leg.
Committed to gaol for 14 days with hard labour.
