PETERSFIELD.
POSTAL ALTERATION.—The General Post Office authorities have decided to curtail the hours for receiving the letters in this town. The alteration is to come into operation on Tuesday, the 1st proximo. The office which is at present open for the reception of letters up to nine o’clock p.m., will then close at 7.30, thereby depriving the public of the advantages of one hour and a half of the most important portion of the day for all business purposes. The large district surrounding (comprising all the tributary postal receiving houses) will consequently be affected in the same ration—as well as the districts around Midhurst, &c., the mail from which place as well as Liphook, Haslemere, Horndean, Cosham, &c., meets the down mail here. We, therefore anticipate a great amount of disappointment and dissatisfaction will be expressed when the alteration becomes more generally known.
