LIGHTING THE TOWN. — On Tuesday last a meeting of ratepayers (Mr. Atkinson in the chair) was held at the Town Hall, for the purpose of receiving the inspectors’ accounts and voting a sum of money for the necessary expenses of the current year. 110l, was voted for this purpose. The accounts for the past year showed a balance in hand of 12l. 17s. 6d. Two of the inspectors retired by rotation and were both re-elected, viz., Mr. Stowe and Mr. H. White. The necessity of providing a more efficient fire engine formed the subject of considerable discussion, but as very few were present at the meeting, it was thought desirable not to come to any definite resolution until some future time, when a larger number of ratepayers might attend.
