PETERSFIELD.
ODD FELLOWSHIP.— We promised some weeks since to give an account of the funds of the Loyal “Pride of the Valley” Lodge, held at the Dolphin Hotel, Petersfield, as soon as the accounts were audited; this having been done, we with pleasure fulfil our promise. During the past year several members have been “made,” and the sum of £19 10s. has been paid to sick members, which was heavier than any former year. It would be too much to give all the accounts in detail, but we are pleased to notice that £61 6s. 5d. has been invested in the savings bank, &c.; and, as one of the auditors, we have much pleasure in saying that great credit is due to Mr. Durman, the secretary, for the plain and intelligible manner in which the books are kept. The total amount of funds is as follows:—In the new three per cents £435 3s. 10d.; in the post-office savings bank £55; value of lodge property, £10; in hand, £4 18s. 7d.; total, £505 2s. 5d. The lodge may be said to be in a very flourishing condition. We are pleased to add that there are ten highly respectable persons to be initiated the next lodge night. It is gratifying to learn that the order is rapidly extending its branches all over the civilised world. During the last two quarters of 1862 no less than 56 lodges were opened—some in Africa, Australia, &c. In Turkey the order is rapidly extending. Up to the 18th December the sum of £2,694 6s. 8d. was raised among the members for the distressed northern operatives, and we have no doubt that amount has since been considerably augmented. The lodges in Norfolk are raising a subscription to purchase a life boat for that coast, to be called the Old Fellow. Surely this vast order must be worthy the attention of respectable young men.
