INDEPENDENT CHAPEL, PETERSFIELD, HANTS.—On Tuesday, the 17th April, the Rev. W. Isaac was ordained to the pastorate of the Church assembling at Petersfield Chapel where he has been officiating since August last. In the morning, the Rev. James Morgan, of Harting, conducted, the opening devotional exercises; the Rev. W. Thorn, of Winchester, delivered the introductory discourse; the Rev. Thomas Cousens, of Portsea, asked the usual questions; the Rev. F. W. Meadows, of Gosport, offered the ordination prayer; the Rev. J. Leifchild, D.D., of London, delivered an affectionate and impressive charge; and the Rev. C. E. James, of Chichester, concluded the service with prayer. In the evening, the Rev. A. Jones, of Buckland, commenced the service by reading the Scriptures and prayer; the Rev. Thomas Adkins, of Southampton, preached a powerful discourse to the Church and congregation; and the solemnities of the day were concluded by the Rev. Mr. Arnott, of Landport. Many other of the neighbouring and county ministers were present on the occasion. After the morning service, about one hundred of the ministers and friends dined together, when animating addresses were delivered by the Rev. Dr. Leifchild, the Rev. Thomas Adkins, the Rev. Thomas Cousens, and Mr. Edward Swaine, of London, who referred, in an interesting manner, to the happy connexion which had subsisted between Mr. Isaac and himself for upwards of twenty years. At five o'clock, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, (which was unusually severe) upwards of two hundred and fifty of the friends of the cause, at Petersfield, and the village stations in connexion with it, took tea together. The chapel, both morning and evening, was crowded to excess, and all the engagements of the day were distinguished by profitable intercourse and hallowed harmony.
