GUILDFORD.

RIFLE CONTEST.—On Monday last a rifle contest took place at Petersfield Range, between ten men each from the 13th Surrey Rifles (Guildford), and the 12th Hants (Petersfield), which resulted in favour of the 13th Surrey by 47 marks, or, upon the average of points of 4.30 per man, Wimbledon targets and scoring. A luncheon was provided by the officers of the 12th Hants: and Col.-Sergeant Cæsar in proposing the health of Captain Seward and the gentlemen of the 12th, expressed his thanks for the very kind reception he and his comrades had received, and hoped that on the return match at Piccard’s, nothing would be wanting to give the 12th a hearty welcome. Private McFarland proposed the health of the Rev. Mr. Sumner. The Rev. gentleman in responding, acknowledged his anxiety to do all in his power to support the volunteer movement. The following is the score:—
