PETERSFIELD.

CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY.—Sermons on behalf of this society were preached in our parish church by the Rev. W. Walsh, association secretary. The collections amounted to upwards of 15l. On Monday evening a public meeting for the same object was held at the National School-room, the Rev. J. M. Sumner in the chair. The Rev. W. Walsh attended as a deputation from the parent society, and in commencing his address stated that instead of taking his audience, as he might do, into a number of mission fields in different parts of the globe, he should confine himself to one particular station, and that in a remote corner of the world, of which he thought he might fairly assume that his audience knew less than of most other missions. The rev. gentleman then proceeded to give, in an exceedingly clear and impressive manner, a most interesting account of the origin and progress of mission work in British Columbia. The meeting was also addressed by the chairman, the Rev. H. Haigh, and the Rev. R. E. Coles.
