INCORPORATED SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING THE ENLARGEMENT, BUILDING, AND REPAIRING OF CHURCHES AND CHAPELS.
This society held its last meeting for the present session on Monday last—the Right Hon. the Earl of Romney in the chair. There were also present the Revs. Thomas Ainger, W. R. Cosens, Henry Howarth, and Robert Tritton, Mr. William Rivington, and the Rev. George Ainslie, M.A., secretary.
Grants of money, amounting in the aggregate to £5,790, were made in aid of the following objects:—(only Hants shown)
…
Christ Church, Winchester
Enlarging or otherwise increasing the accommodation in the churches at:—
…
Hawkley, near Petersfield
… Thus, with a regular income of nearly £8,000 per annum, nearly £6,000 have been at once on this occasion, set aside, making the amount of grants outstanding and still to be met by the incorporated society little short of £50,000. At the same time there are already many more cases before the committee, and numerous plans waiting for approval, and a multitude of other schemes for church building and restoration through the country, towards which help must shortly be rendered. Under these circumstances the society appears to have a strong claim upon all Churchmen for support and sympathy, which we hope will not be withheld.
