SOUTHAMPTON AND PETERSFIELD RAILWAY.— We observe from the report of the Southampton and Petersfield Railway meeting, on Wednesday last, the managing committee did not intend to deduct 5s. per share in addition to the levy of 35l. upon each of the Provisional Committee, nor, of course to make any deduction on their own, after making the handsome contribution of 50l. each. Reducing the number of Provisional Committee-men from whom payment may be expected to some few above a hundred, and upon the supposition that all the allottees pay their quota of 5s. per share, the whole amount required to discharge the liabilities of the company will have been obtained by what we must consider as a very moderate contribution. The result of the meeting on Wednesday was so satisfactory that we the more regret it was not called before, and are glad to find that the notice we took of the company's affairs was the means of causing it to be held. The whole sum required is little more than 6,000l., and we are glad to find the allottees are paying up, and that there is therefore a prospect of a speedy settlement.
