PETERSFIELD, June 21. 

     TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT.— A lecture was delivered in the Townhall on Friday evening by Mr. Hilton, of Brighton, explanatory of the ‟Permissive Bill,” which is shortly to be brought before Parliament, the Rev. M. A. Smelt in the chair. The lecturer delivered an address, in the course of which he explained the principles of the bill, and concluded by moving a resolution adopting a petition to Parliament in favour thereof. The resolution was seconded by the Rev. Mr. Duthie, and carried unanimously. A letter was read by the Chairman from Sir W. G. H. Jolliffe, Bart., M.P., regretting his inability to attend the meeting, but stating that the subject had already attracted his attention.
