PETERSFIELD, OCTOBER 17.
TESTIMONIAL.—A very handsome silver salver was presented on Wednesday to the Rev. M. A. Smelt, the late Curate of Petersfield, by the teachers and children of the National Schools. The salver was presented by the head-master, Mr. Macfarland, in an appropriate speech. The Rev. M. A. Smelt replied in very feeling terms, and heartily thanked the teachers and children for their handsome present, assuring them that he should never forget the six years he spent in ministering among them, and that he would always feel a lively interest in the progress of their excellent schools. A few friends of the school were present to witness the interesting ceremony, which took place in the schoolroom under the presidency of the Rev. R. E. Coles, in the unavoidable absence of our Rector. Mr. Smelt leaves Petersfield on account of his being appointed to the Rectory of Medstead, Hants.
