TESTIMONIAL TO THE VICAR OF STEEP.—On Monday a meeting of the parishioners was held at 5 o’clock, in the schoolroom, numbering together about 200 old and young, and comprising most of the resident farmers and others, with more than a goodly attendance of the fair sex, for the purpose of presenting a handsome silk gown to the Rev. William Henry Hawker, M.A., of Ashford Lodge, upon his appointment to the newly created vicarage of Steep by the Lord Bishop of Winchester, as well as to mark their appreciation of the same, and their respect and esteem for the rev. gentleman, their late curate. The presentation was made by Mr. Churchwarden Moody, of Elm Cottage, on the part of the subscribers, in a very complimentary speech, which was feelingly and appropriately responded to by Mr. hawker, and the meeting passed off in the most satisfactory manner.
