PETERSFIELD, MARCH 7.
THE PRINCE OF WALES’ MARRIAGE.— The programme of the day’s rejoicings is now published, and promises something of which the town may be proud. The children meet in the Square at 12 o’clock, and march in procession round the town, headed by the Haslemere fife and drum Rifie band; after which the juveniles will have a glass of wine, a 4d. bun, and two oranges each. The children will then move off to the Heath, where they will be indulged with athletic sports. A public dinner is then to be given to all the working people of the town, Lower Weston, Sheet, and Nursted, in the Square. The dinner will consist of cold roast and boiled beef and plum pudding. Abont 700 males and females are expected. A display of fireworks at 7 o’clock, to take place on the Heath, is to conclude the day’s rejoicings. To carry out the above our little town, with its usual liberality, has very nearly raised the sum of £120. At half- past 8 a monster bonfire is to be lighted on War Down, one of the highest points in the South Downs. Very extensive preparations have been made for this by Colonel Nicholson, in accordance with whose suggestion several others will be lighted on the hills in this neighbourhood by the resident gentry.
