LOCAL CASES IN THE LONDON COURT OF BANKRUPTCY
SATURDAY.
(Before Mr. Commissioner Goulburn)
RE. COOKE, Sen.

Petersfield, &c.—This was an examination meeting under the failure of Thomas Cooke, of Froxfield, near Petersfield, cattle salesman. Mr Cardwell appeared for the trade assignees.

The balance sheet filed by the bankrupt commences on the 1st of January. 1854, and ends on the 24th of February in the present year, showing the following summary, viz.

Dr.—To creditors unsecured, £1139  9s  11d; ditto holding security, £2565; profits, £133  4s  2d. Total, £3837  14s  1d.

Cr.—By deficiency at commencement, £2655  3s  4d; property given up, £12  10s ; security in the hands of creditors, £560; trade expences, £175  7s  5d; domestic and personal expences, £407  16s  9d. Total. £3837  14s  1d.

The unsecured creditors chiefly reside at Froxfield, Winchester and Petersfield.

The creditor holding security is Mr. James Lampard, of Winchester, debt £345, who holds a mortgage on a copyhold estate valued at £500.

Mr. Nicholson, the official assignee, reported to the Court that the bankrupt’s books had been indifferently kept, and the personal expences were to a considerable extent assumed.

His Honour did not think that, in justice to the commercial world, he could pass this bankrupt’s balance sheet, as containing a full and true disclosure of the bankrupt’s estate and effects. He should order an adjournment sine die, with limited protection. The proceedings then terminated.
