VESTRY MEETING.—A vestry was convened by the Churchwardens on Friday (yesterday), for the purpose of filling up a vacancy in the Burial Board, occasioned by the resignation of J. Mason, Esq., who has left the neighbourhood. Mr. Atkinson was requested to take the chair, but declined on the ground that, being a member of the Burial Board, he would rather not take any part in the present proceedings. Mr. Duplock then moved that Mr. Underdown, as one of the Overseers, should take the chair, and that gentleman did so. The Chairman then inquired if anyone had any motion to submit, whereupon Mr. Chas. Chapman proposed that Mr. G. Todman be elected to fill the vacancy. Mr. Duplock then inquired of the Vestry Clerk whether Mr. Todman, holding as he did the office of Churchwarden, was eligible, and being answered in the affirmative, he remarked that he thought it was better to distribute the parochial offices among different persons, rather than concentrate them upon individuals, as by the former course they interested a greater number of persons in the affairs of the parish, and for this reason he thought they would do well to appoint some other person to fill the vacancy; he declined however, to move an amendment, and the motion was carried.
