ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE.—On Thursday morning last the inhabitants of the rural parish of Privett were thrown into a state of excitement upon hearing that an attempt to commit suicide had been made by Mrs. Hasted, the wife of John Hasted, wheelwright. It appears that he was awoke early in the morning by hearing his wife retching violently, when, upon questioning he as to the cause, she stated that she had taken two pills which she had made up from some rat poison she had in the house. Mr. Rogers, surgeon, of Westmeon, was immediately sent for, and upon reaching the house, and applying the required remedy, the desired effect was obtained, and this would-be suicide, under his able treatment, is now recovering.
