The Petersfield Poaching Case.—A conversation of much warmth took place on this subject, which commenced by Mr. J. Collett enquiring whether Sir Chas. Taylor, who was alleged to have entrapped the poor into crime for the purpose of sending them to gaol, still continued in the commission of the peace? Sir James Graham answered in the affirmative, and stated it to be his opinion that Sir C. Taylor's character remained wholly unaffected by what had been alleged against him—a sentiment which was fully entertained by many hon. members, who blamed Mr. Collett for having attempted to asperse the character of an aged and upright magistrate by ill-judged and unfounded allegations.
