PETERSFIELD.

The poor of the parish of Sheet were liberally supplied on St. Thomas's day with beef and bread by the kind benevolence of the inhabitants of the above parish, in order to regale themselves on Christmas day. It would hare been truly gratifying to have seen the example followed by many of the inhabitants of Petersfield, who can boast of much wealth, but the poor of the town generally were destined to their daily scanty meal on Christmas day.

The Churchwardens of Petersfield distributed on St. Thomas's day, six loaves of bread to all widows who had arrived at the age of 52 years, and who belonged to the parish. The above is an annual gift endowed by an old lady of the name of Phillips, who died in the town some years since.
