CUTTING AND WOUNDING AT PETERSFIELD.
George and Thomas Hobbs, brothers, were charged with feloniously wounding Stephen Lillywhite, with the intent to do him some grievous bodily harm, at Petersfield. Mr. Poulden conducted the prosecution. The evidence showed that the prosecutor keeps the Railway View public-house, and that on the evening of the 17th of October the prisoners were at his house drinking, and that a quarrel arose between them, which caused the interference of the prosecutor, upon which both the prisoners turned upon him. Other parties likewise were engaged in the affray, and George Hobbs, on being thrust out of the house, took a large stone in his hand and threw it at the prosecutor, inflicting a severe and dangerous wound on the forehead. The jury returned a verdict of acquittal as respected Thomas Hobbs, and found George Hobbs guilty, who was sentenced to—Three months’ imprisonment.
